Feature

Control exactly what plays, in what order, and when

Build playlists from your media library, control the rotation with sequencing and weighting, then attach a schedule so the right content plays on the right screens at the right time.

Quick answer

Playlist scheduling in NoroCMS lets you order media into a rotation, set how often each item repeats relative to the others, and bind that playlist to a schedule with day-of-week rules, time windows, and priority, targeted at a single screen or an entire device group.

Playlists: order and weight, not just a folder of files

A playlist in NoroCMS is an ordered sequence of items pulled from your media library. Each item has a position in the rotation and a weight: an item with weight 2 plays twice as often as one with weight 1, which is the usual way to give a hero spot more airtime without removing the supporting content entirely.

Reordering is a one-click operation from the dashboard, not a remove-and-re-add. That matters in practice: changing the order of a live playlist should never mean a screen has to re-download anything, and it does not. The device already has every file cached; only the rotation order changes.

Scheduling: day, time, and priority

A schedule binds a playlist to either a single device or a device group, with an optional day-of-week mask and a time window. A lunch-hour promo can run only between 11am and 2pm on weekdays, while a general brand reel fills every other hour, and NoroCMS resolves the conflict by priority rather than by whichever schedule happened to be created last.

Schedules also carry an effective start and end date, so a campaign can be set up in advance and left to start and stop on its own. This pairs naturally with retail promotions and daypart menu changes, where the content genuinely needs to change on a clock, not on someone remembering to log in.

Changes reach the screen fast

Editing a playlist or a schedule automatically tells every device it affects to refresh, using the same lightweight channel devices already poll on. You do not need to visit the screen or wait out a long sync interval. See instant content push for how that works, and offline playback for what a screen does with a playlist once it has downloaded it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can one screen belong to more than one schedule?
Yes. A device can have several schedules targeting it, or targeting a group it belongs to, and NoroCMS resolves which one is active right now using day, time, and priority.
What happens if two schedules overlap?
The schedule with the higher priority wins for that time slot. This is how a time-limited promotion can temporarily override a general rotation without deleting or pausing anything.
Can I reorder a playlist without re-downloading content?
Yes. Reordering only changes the sequence a device already has cached locally; nothing gets re-downloaded, and the change reaches the screen within minutes.
Does weighting work with mixed video and image content?
Yes. Weight applies the same way regardless of whether an item is a video or a still image, so you can bias the rotation toward whichever asset matters most that week.
Can schedules target a group of screens instead of one at a time?
Yes. Device groups let you schedule a playlist across every screen in a location, region, or category in one action instead of repeating the setup per device.
